As a creative person I frequently admire the work of others who also have that creative spark…and I’m often full of admiration for what they do. Creative people are drawn to others who make – we talk the same language!
Last week I photographed some pieces made by my next door neighbour, the lovely Lucienne of Lulalupin. She creates luxurious handmade fabric accessories to suit those special occasions. Inspired by fairytales, Victoriana and Steampunk, every piece is crafted from the finest materials; 100% silk, vintage lace, semi-precious stones and beads; intricately embellished and hand sewn with tender loving care. Her work is just gorgeous, and to see it close up was such a delight. Each piece is beautifully conceived and executed…the right colours chosen, with feathers dyed to suit. Under my lens went a number of exquisite headpieces, but you must check out her website to see her other pieces and her amazing collars and cuffs!
The ribbon roses bouquet was amazing, with handmade roses and vintage jewels and in some delicate colours too. I used a wooden ‘artist’s model hand’ and a black backdrop to show it off. As an bespoke alternative to a real flower bouquet – this is the way to go!
As well as headdresses (on an Alice band) like the red and black one shown here, there are also smaller beaded fascinators that are secured using a ‘comb’ – like this pretty pink and purple one.
Lucienne uses a great photographer for her location shoots (and really am a rank amateur in comparison) and always love seeing the results. I know how much work goes into coordinating models, outfits, photographer, transport but it all is worth it for the end results.
Theses beautiful pieces add instant pizazz to any outfit. But better still Lucienne can create a bespoke piece just for you – she has that creative eye for colour to which her enviable work studio testifies. So, if you have an outfit that needs a headpiece, collar or cuffs to compliment it, Lucienne can create it. And who wouldn’t want a unique, quality handmade piece to treasure forever?
You can see for yourself when Lulalupin will be alongside my Dratz Hats stall at the Craft Fair at Hurstpierpoint Village Centre, East Sussex, on 9th April, 10am-2pm.
