Grandmother does Steampunk

In need of creative distraction I opened my fabric stash and took out the two pieces of chintz upholstery that caught my eye a few months back. Both have lovely vintage floral designs that are reminiscent of the English cottage with a garden full of scented roses, clematis, and lavender. Rummaging in another box I took out a broken zip…and an idea was born.

These two hats are the results, a mix between what might be found in Grandmother’s sewing basket, and an idyllic Steampunk summer. The hat bands include whirls of metal zip, antique lace and gathered ribbon, with button and bead embellishment. Each hat measures about 14cm across the brim and approx 10cm tall. They will have elastic attached to secure the mini hat to the head. The underside of one brim is in a pale mauve lining fabric, the other hat is cream. Each is trimmed with antique lace around the brim edge.

You can almost smell the Yardley!
